As I sit in an hotel, built by Nazis to house foreign diplomats during their mass rallies, preparing to perform in a theatre that was destroyed in WWII and then rebuilt under the personal supervision of Hitler, I reflect on the piece "il ritorno d'Ulisee in patria". Authoritarians exist all over the world, and on one hand this work could be merely described as the restoration of yet another. I like to think, however, that this show speaks more broadly about hope with a message that is relevant today: When all around you seems to be falling apart, descending inexorably into oblivion, even after decades of decay, the stoicism of the human spirit combined with the power of love will ultimately restore sanity and allow you to flourish.
